–Rotational drag increases as

  • Blades get longer
  • Blades get wider
  • Number of blades increase
  • Blade angle decreases (parallel to the wind)

–Power gained from wind stream increases as

  • Blades get longer (depending on the wind stream)
  • Blades get wider
  • Number of blades increase
  • Blade angle increases (at some point the increased blade loads add more resistance at the hub, resulting in increased drag)
  • The challenge is to figure out the most efficient combination!
